

Access statement for Aldwyck Wood
Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based 3 bedroom bed and breakfast. We also have a massage and beauty treatment room which is available by appointment. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

The nearest town centre to Aldwyck Wood is Bedford which is 5 miles away.
There is a bus stop directly opposite Aldwyck Wood along level paths with a frequent bus service to and from Bedford passing through local villages.
We offer a pick up and drop off service to and from the local railway stations by prior arrangement and at an additional cost.
The local train stations are Bedford, Biggleswade, Sandy, and St Neots and all are within 25 minutes by car.
We have a website with photographs of each guest room, which are all located on the first floor.

Arrival and car parking facilities
There is ample free car parking on the premises, which is on gravel. There is a lockable gate through which is additional parking at the end of a 40 metre gravel driveway which is unlit.
Assistance with luggage is always offered to all guests.
The entrance is accessed along gravel and concrete paths about 25 metres long and there are 3 steps up to the main entrance. The paths are lit by dawn to dusk lighting.
There is a bell push to the left of the main entrance.
Main entrance
There is bright lighting in the main entrance area.
The main entrance has a side hung door.
Bedrooms are available from 3pm onwards.
All guests are shown where facilities are and then escorted to their rooms.
The downstairs floor at Aldwyck Wood is entirely ceramic tiled and on one level.
Public area – hall, srairs, landing, corridors etc
On the ground floor is the dining room which has ceramic tiled floor.
The stairway is 790mm wide and has 13 carpeted steps with an oak handrail on one side.
All woodwork is oiled oak with light coloured walls.
The landing corridor is 820mm wide with a small restriction in one part which reduces it to 700mm wide.
Dining room
The dining room has a centre light with dimming facility as well as a table lamp.
The table is oval, seats 8 and is 760mm high.
None of the chairs have arms.
Background music is played in the dining area through ceiling speakers which can be turned off if requested.
We have a full waitress service in operation and cater for all special dietary requirements by prior arrangement.
We have a very comprehensive breakfast menu with daily specials, which is included within the room rate. Large font menus are available on request.
There is a colour contrast between the crockery and the linen.
Aldwyck Wood is a non smoking establishment throughout.
Laundry
A laundry/ironing service is offered at an extra cost and is carried out by the staff.
Treatment room
The massage/beauty treatment room is located on the first floor along a carpeted landing. The treatment room has commercial non slip vinyl flooring.
The doorway to the treatment room is 730mm wide.
The couch is electrically operated and also heated and fully adjustable up to 114kgs
There is an un-armed chair in the room.
There are contraindications of treatments and this depends on the illness/disorder.
There is aftercare information available which can be provided in large print.
On the back of the door is a hook which is 1750mm from the floor.
Bedrooms
Smoke and heat detectors are located throughout Aldwyck Wood which are all linked.
There are wind-up torches provided in each of the guest rooms and also lighting on the landing which operates in the event of a power failure. The emergency evacuation procedures are on view on the back of all guest room doors.
All guest rooms have flat screen TV with integral DVD/CD and Freeview with remote control and a list of stations available is in the guests information pack.
There is a filtered air and heat exchanger fitted throughout Aldwyck Wood.
Aldwyck Wood has a cordless WI FI network.
There is a table and chair in all bedrooms to use as a work station or as required.
All bedrooms are carpeted with vinyl floor in the bath/shower rooms.
There are wall lights with independently switched task lighting fitted with low energy lamps.
There are 3 king-size double beds of which one will unzip and make 2 x 2ft 6 inch singles.
All bedrooms have kettles with a level indicator and a hospitality tray.
An evening meal is available with prior notice and additional cost.
Aldwyck Wood is a pet free, non smoking establishment
Bathroom, shower room and WC (ensuite or private)
2 bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms. The shower rooms are 2 metres x 2 metres approx. The other has a private, separate bath and shower room including an infra red sauna. The operating instructions for the sauna are in the guest information pack. The room is 3.2 metres x 3.3 metres.
The floor surface in all wet rooms is vinyl.
All entrance doors are side hung.
All showers have a 210mm step to gain access and all have sliding clear glass doors.
The showers are all fitted with thermostatic mixers at mains water pressure with adjustable heads.
The basins and bath all have lever operated taps fitted.
The bath is 590mm high with side taps and central waste
The WCs all have dual flush and are 440mm high.

Rooms available from 3pm and should be vacated by 10 am on the day of departure.
Future plans
We plan to increase the available parking area even more and to make the gates remotely operated. There will also be signage in the car park area to indicate where the spaces are. The car park and driveway will eventually be lit by automatic lights.
